Black Women in the Arts was established in November 1995 by female artistes with the aim of supporting and promoting the artistic endeavours of female artistes from the African, and African-Caribbean communities. Black Women in the Arts recognises that these groups locally and nationally can be isolated and under-represented within the creative industries.
Furthermore, it is our experience that such artistes are often more likely to experience unemployment and that such economic status contributes to many women having a low income. To this end, Black Women in the Arts, will aim to develop and maintain programmes and events to assist semi-established and new artistes working across both the visual and performing arts and across a whole range of media.
