To celebrate Black Women in the Arts Day, an event which marks Black History Month, Black Women in the Arts (BWA) will be presents ‘Celebrating Women in Jazz’ in October each year.
The evening consist of an array of female jazz singers that have come together to share their love and passion for singing jazz. Some of the finest
female artistes appearing on stage performing contemporary and traditional jazz pieces.

The annual presentation of the ‘Nina Simone Award’ awarded to an artistes for her contribution to jazz, will form part of the evening presentation by classical composer and conductor Shirley Thompson.

This year’s Stage Manager of the event said, “We are hoping that the outstanding success of previous years' events will continue through the life of this event - packed venue, audience ready as always - witnessing and celebrating the work of aspiring jazz Black Female Artistes. This production strongly encourages artistes to write and perform their own work.”
